A Habit Broken

Remember this? We were kidding ourselves. It might have worked for a day or two, it might have been a good "reminder" to keep the thumbs out, but it didn't last.

Caitlin continued sucking at night, nap, and all waking hours.

We finally decided something HAD to be done. In August I ordered a miracle cure from Amazon.com.
The first evening was rough when she got some on her tongue and couldn't eat dinner because her tongue "was burning". And the first night was rough when she couldn't go to sleep and came downstairs crying, saying "please take it off, I promise I wouldn't suck my thumb."

But we persisted and diligently applied every 3-4 days for about a month.
Now her thumbs have been clear of any and all ointment for a month and we are proud to announce there has been NO THUMB SUCKING!!!!!
Hooray for Caitlin and breaking such a hard habit.

Does it really work? Really? I should probably do it with Grace. Ugh. I'm not looking forward to it.

It really, honestly worked. The stuff tastes so bad that she didn't put her thumbs in her mouth. Now she still doesn't ever put them in her mouth.

I should say that when my sister and I were young we sucked our thumbs, and my mom would paint something on them and we would just suck it right off. But I recall it tasting more like strong fingernail polish. This stuff is pure nasty tasting.

Nice work Caitlin. At lease you didn't have to go the retainer route...that's what we had right?

Yea for Cait, and yea for you, Beth, for taking matters into your own hands...drastic measures. But sounds like it was worth it!
